There are watches you buy because they are well made. There are watches you buy because they tell a story. The Nivada Grenchen F77 SST Tiger Eye MK1 is the rarest category of watch: one that does both, and does so as the final edition of a defining series.
As the last model in the F77 Mark 1 collection, the Tiger Eye MK1 carries with it the full weight of Nivada Grenchen's 1977-rooted design language, the 37mm integrated bracelet format, the Swiss-made SOPROD automatic movement, the alternating satin-brushed and polished case finishing and elevates it with a dial material that is as ancient as watchmaking itself is young.
Tiger eye is a metamorphic gemstone formed when crocidolite, a blue asbestos mineral undergoes a natural pseudomorphic replacement process, with quartz gradually filling the fibrous mineral structure while preserving its parallel banding. The result is a stone of exceptional silky lustre and most distinctively a powerful optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy: a shifting, cat's-eye glow that rolls across the surface as the angle of light changes.
What makes the F77 Tiger Eye MK1 particularly resonant for collectors is that this is not a material novelty invented for a contemporary market. Nivada Grenchen's vintage 1970s archive includes original watches and advertising featuring tiger eye dials. The F77 Tiger Eye MK1 is therefore a reinterpretation rather than an invention: a return to a material the brand used when the original F77 was first produced, updated with modern manufacturing standards, a Swiss-certified movement, and a level of case finishing that the 1970s originals never achieved.

The case is 316L stainless steel in a two-tone silver and gold finish 37mm in diameter, 12.1mm thick, with a lug-to-lug span of 45mm, benchmarked on an 18.5cm wrist. This is a watch designed to be worn, not displayed: the proportions are deliberately wearable, the integrated bracelet (316L stainless steel, 22x16mm) flows seamlessly from the case lugs to the 316L deployant clasp, and the overall package sits close to the wrist rather than sitting on top of it. The case finishing alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces including the crystal surround requires precision hand-finishing at every facet change.
The Tiger Eye MK1 deserves attention for the natural character of its stone dial. Tiger eye is known for its warm amber-brown tones and its shifting, almost luminous bands that move differently depending on the light. This gives each dial a unique visual depth, making every piece slightly different from the next. Rather than relying on decoration alone, the watch draws its personality from the material itself: earthy, warm, elegant, and impossible to replicate in exactly the same way.
