The Antarctic Eggshell Beige Luminova 38 mm continues the 1950s Antarctic in a 38 mm steel case, with a smooth eggshell beige dial, polished dauphine hands and applied Art Deco arrowhead indexes. It is the mid-century design brought to proportions that suit today's wrists.
The Antarctic was Nivada Grenchen's answer to the age of polar exploration. In 1955 and 1956, Operation Deep Freeze I set out to build the first permanent base in Antarctica, under the direction of Admiral Richard E. Byrd. On his wrist was an Antarctic, chosen for its robustness, shock resistance and resistance to magnetism.
The 38 mm case is made of 316L stainless steel with alternating brushed and polished finishes, measures 45 mm lug to lug and takes 20 mm straps. The closed caseback is embossed with the US base in Antarctica. Under the double-domed sapphire crystal, the Swiss Soprod P024 automatic drives hours, minutes and seconds, with a 38-hour power reserve and no date. Water resistance is 10 ATM, or 100 m.
Wear it on racing leather, classic leather, rubber, or a flat-link or beads-of-rice steel bracelet. Smaller wrists can look at the Antarctic 35 mm.
