The Autochron Meca-Quartz by Nivada Grenchen is a Swiss chronograph powered by the VK67 meca-quartz movement, combining quartz precision with a smooth sweeping chronograph hand. Featuring a 38 mm stainless steel case, rotating aluminum bezel, double-domed sapphire crystal, and 200 m water resistance. Available with leather, steel, and rubber strap options

The Autochron Meca-Quartz by Nivada Grenchen delivers the precision of quartz with the tactile feel of a mechanical chronograph. Its textured black dial features Art Deco-inspired typography on sand or salmon subdials, creating depth and a distinctive vintage character.

Powered by the VK67 meca-quartz movement with a three-year battery life, the chronograph hand sweeps smoothly like a mechanical watch. This hybrid movement combines quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module. Available with leather, steel, or rubber straps, the Autochron Meca-Quartz offers versatile Swiss watchmaking with a mechanical feel.

A Quartz Watch with a Mechanical Feel This new version of the Nivada Autochronfeatures the famous Art Deco-style typography on the sub-dials, here in sand or salmon tones, which illuminate the textured black dial and create depth with a 3D effect. It is powered by a VK67 Meca-Quartz movement with a three-year battery life. The chronograph hand sweeps smoothly across the dial, mimicking the motion of mechanical watches. The principle of a Meca-Quartz movement is to combine the precision of quartz with the beauty of traditional watchmaking, thanks to an automatic movement module. The quartz part provides the timekeeping, while the mechanical module ensures the proper operation of the chronograph (at 6 o’clock). This is why they are often called hybrid movements. The Autochron Meca-Quartz models are available with multiple strap options, including leather, various styles of steel, and rubber.

The Autochron Revival

Step back into the 1970s

The Original Autochron Prototype of the 1970s

There is a lot of talk now about ‘prototype’ watches. We are, however, very happy to sell this as a genuine test piece by Nivada in as-new condition ( only a few tiny hairline scratches from storage !) it has never been worn.
We believe that these watches were made in only around 20 examples and were never commercially available. To us, the most interesting element of this watch is the singer dial that shares some of the details of the Rolex Daytona.
The lume on the dial and hands has taken on a stunning, rich patina. Additionally the watch features a bi-directional rotating bezel, date feature and red depth rating. The steel bracelet is in outstanding condition.
This watch is in completely untouched condition and we have decided to not even open this time capsule. The watch is running fine, but for everyday wear a service might be recommended.

A Quartz Watch with a Mechanical Feel

This updated edition of the Nivada Grenchen Autochron features striking salmon and yellow Art Deco-style subdials set against a textured black dial, creating depth and strong visual contrast. The bidirectional fluted aluminum bezel, accented with a yellow marker at 12 o’clock, stays true to the original 1970s design.
A tachymeter scale integrated into the bezel allows speed measurement over a fixed distance, reinforcing the Autochron’s racing heritage while balancing functional performance with refined vintage aesthetics.

VK67 Meca-Quartz Movement

The Autochron Mecaquartz is powered by the VK67 meca-quartz movement, combining quartz accuracy with the smooth sweep of a mechanical chronograph hand. This hybrid construction pairs quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module, delivering precision with a traditional watchmaking feel.
With a three-year battery life, the Autochron Meca-Quartz is available with leather, steel, or rubber strap options, offering versatility and reliability in a Swiss-designed chronograph.

Tachymeter Scale

Start: When the object or vehicle starts moving, start the chronograph.
Stop: Stop the chronograph after the object or vehicle has traveled a known distance (1 km or 1 mile).
Reading the Speed: Read the average speed directly on the tachymeter scale where the second hand has stopped. For example, if a car travels one kilometer in 30 seconds, the second hand will stop at the 120 mark on the tachymeter scale, indicating an average speed of 120 km/h.
